Knowledge Action Network on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events

To build global knowledge leadership on emergent risks and extreme events

Extreme climate and weather events, associated disasters, and emergent risks are becoming increasingly critical in the context of global environmental change. They are a potential major threat to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and one of the most pressing challenges for future human well-being. Even if global warming is limited to well below 2 degrees Celsius, as agreed on in the Paris Climate Accord, the impacts of climate extremes will be posing serious threats to human societies and ecosystems.

The Knowledge-Action Network (KAN) on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events provides an open platform for scientific communities from across science disciplines and engineering working on extreme events, disaster risk reduction and governance to exchange information, knowledge and data and engage in collaborative research activities. The Knowledge Action Network on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events is a joint initiative of the Future Earth, IRDR and WCRP programs.
