Call for Applications: 6th Batch of the IRDR Young Scientists Programme

The IRDR Young Scientists Programme (YSP) is now open for applications for its 6th batch. This programme invites motivated young researchers who are committed to advancing disaster risk reduction (DRR) through integrated, innovative and needs-based research.  

Since its launch in 2016, the YSP has evolved into a vibrant and interdisciplinary community of over 200 young researchers from more than 40 countries, actively contributing to DRR research, policy, and practice. 

Under IRDR Phase II, guided by A Framework for Global Science in Support of Risk-Informed Sustainable Development and Planetary Health, the role of youth and early-career professionals is recognized as pivotal in addressing complex and emerging risks. The YSP aims to empower these young professionals by fostering collaboration, enhancing capacity, and nurturing leadership in the global DRR arena. 

We warmly welcome young researchers from all disciplines relevant to DRR to apply and become part of the IRDR Young Scientists community. 

Why Join the IRDR Young Scientists Programme? 

As an IRDR Young Scientist, you will: 

  • Join a global network of peers and leading experts in DRR 

  • Participate in collaborative research with IRDR working groups  

  • Contribute to and gain visibility at international and regional DRR platforms 

  • Receive mentorship, international exposure, and official certification as an IRDR Young Scientist 

  • Showcase your work through IRDR-led initiatives including: 

  • Lumos: A platform where young professionals transform disaster risk data into actionable solutions. 

  • IRDR Youth Podium events such as the Innovation Lab, highlighting youth-driven innovations for DRR 

Application Requirements 

Applicants are required to submit the following documents: 

  1. Completed Application Form as provided 

  1. Detailed Curriculum Vitae 

  1. Detailed Research Plan with the template provided 

  1. Recommendation/Endorsement Letter(s) 

  1. Copy of Student/Faculty ID Card 

Submission Details 

All applications will be acknowledged via email. Results of the selection process will be communicated within two months of the submission deadline. Successful applicants will receive an official certification letter.
