The Collaborating Centre for Oxford University and CUHK for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (CCOUC)—the host institute for IRDR ICoE-CCOUC—in partnership with the Centre for Global Health (CGH) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the GX Foundation, will host a public forum on Friday, 18 September 2026, titled "Field-Based Training for Health Professional Students in Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management (HEDRM): Learning, Practice and Reflection".
Field-based training plays a vital role in preparing health professional students for the complex realities of disaster risk management and humanitarian medicine. For students from developed regions, gaining firsthand exposure to healthcare systems in resource-deficit communities is essential to nurturing a new generation of public health professionals with a global vision.
Beyond a general introduction to field-based and service-learning models, this hybrid forum will showcase fresh insights from the CCOUC humanitarian field-based training programme in Cambodia (July 2026), highlighting key operational challenges in dengue and flooding risk management. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage directly in discussion with the programme's trainers and student participants.
