On 14 October 2025, Dr. Amir Shahmohammadian, an IRDR Young Scientist, delivered a presentation at the Catastrophe Insurance Symposium held at the Regional Educational and Research Center on Earthquake Risk Management and Resilience for West and Central Asia (RCECWA-UNESCO) at the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES), Tehran, Iran.
In his talk, he highlighted the complexity of real-world disaster management and introduced the FiCat-EQ model — a comprehensive toolbox that integrates seismic risk analysis with financial capacity to estimate financial vulnerability and assess its impacts on macroeconomic conditions and resilience. This event brought together experts, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss innovative solutions for catastrophe insurance and risk financing.
For more details on the FiCat model, please refer to the published article in the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijdrr.2025.105474.
