In 2013, Nyamwamba the now infamous river in Kasese District, Uganda burst its banks for the second time since 1966 claiming 8 Lives and destroying property worth millions and severely damaging the famous Kilembe Mines Hospital, Katiri Primary and Bulembia Schools inclusive in Western Region.
The same tragedy happened in May 2020 and has been recurrent since then, claiming more lives and properties.
WWW and partners in their article “Addressing the Cause of Recurrent Flooding in Kasese District “Through Improved Catchment Management Practices Areas” noted that human activities issue one of the factors responsible for the recurrent and disastrous flash floods in the region.
Through the 2022 Media Saving Lives Initiative, with support from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) through the African Union of Broadcasting(AUB), Jenipher Asiimwe participated in a continental co-production project and assessed the truthfulness of the statement.
