Applications Invited for International Seminar on FORIN (Mexico City, Mexico)

FORIN Mexico2014 Workshop_compr_logoFrom 24-25 February 2014, the Institute of Geography of the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico, will host an international seminar on Forensic Investigations of Disasters (FORIN). This seminar is the follow-up to the International Workshop on FORIN Associated with Landslides, which was held from 24 June to 5 July 2013. Click here for the report on this workshop [PDF 1.03MB].

The international seminar on FORIN is directed at young Latin American scientists and students from all disciplines related to the field of disaster risk reduction (DRR), where they will learn more about FORIN, a methodology proposed by the IRDR Programme in order to understand the complex and underlying causes of disasters.

The seminar will have two modalities:

  • Key-note conferences (open to the general scientific community; no registration required).
  • Round-table discussion (exclusive for young students and scientists from Latin America, upon application, acceptance and registration).

Some grants for travelling or accommodation will be offered to postgraduate students and young scientists from Latin America, with the exception of those studying or living in Mexico City.

The seminar is sponsored by the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Geographical Union (IGU). It is supported by the IRDR Programme, the ICSU Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ICSU-ROLAC), the Mexican Academy of Sciences, the International Consortium on Landslides (ICL), and the Institute of Geography of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

The IRDR International Young Scientists Forum (IYSF) 2026 is a three-day international forum organized by IRDR and mainly hosted by IRDR IPO and IRDR ICoE Coherence. The forum brings early career researchers together to advance disaster risk science and its application to policy and practice in support of the Sendai Framework. Its outputs will assess the contribution of science to Sendai Framework implementation and generate forward-looking insights to inform the post-2030 disaster risk reduction agenda.
