IRDR Chair in new project on Extreme Events and Environments
29 November 2014

IRDR Chair David Johnston from Massey University partnered with the recently funded project-cluster E3S. “Extreme Events and Environments: from climate to society” received Fast Track funding through a Future Earth funding stream and is coordinated by Markus Reichstein from Max-Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena, Germany.

The cluster seeks to mobilise the different Global Environmental Change (GEC) scientific communities which together address a wide range of climate extremes and ro connect them, with stakeholder organisations, from the insurance industry, risk and adaptation management, and governance. The project will address past, contemporary and projected extreme climatic events and will look at the frequency, likely locations, and impact on societies, for example in land-use planning and risk governance.

IRDR will be interested to contribute to the connections between risk perception and extreme climate events.
