Professor Gordon McBean of Canada announced as Winner of the 62nd International Meteorological Organization (IMO) Prize by the World Meteorological Organization

The World Meteorological Organization, the United Nations System’s authoritative voice on Weather, Climate and Water, has announced that Professor Gordon McBean of Canada as the winner of the 62nd International Meteorological Organization (IMO) Prize and will receive his award in 2018*.  The IMO Prize is the most important award in meteorology and is named after WMO’s predecessor organization the International Meteorological Organization. It is awarded annually to scientists that have made outstanding contributions to meteorology, hydrology and geophysical sciences.  Established in 1955, the IMO Prize is the most important award in meteorology and rewards outstanding contributions in meteorology, climatology and hydrology.

On May 17, 2017, the 61st IMO prize was awarded at a ceremony in Geneva to Professor Zeng Qingcun, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, for his outstanding contribution to meteorology and climate science. He delivered a scientific lecture to the Council on “Monitoring, predicting and management of meteorological disasters.”
