19th IRDR Scientific Committee Meeting

The 19th IRDR Scientific Committee Meeting was held in Beijing, April 15-16, 2018.

The central focus of this meeting was related to IRDR Strategic Plan of Actions 2018-2020. With the feedback of UNISDR and ICSU (the co-sponsors) and the discussion of Scientific Committee members, the IRDR Strategic Plan of Actions 2018-2020 was decided to be the working paper with some minor revise.

The meeting reviewed the plans and achievement of the existing IRDR Working Groups. The proposal of a new Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change and Adaption and Sustainable Development Goals was approved.

This meeting provided an opportunity for SC members, ex-officio members, NCs and ICoEs to discuss how to enable a broader, more interactive, crosscutting and productive work in IRDR, in particular toward the scientific publications, capacity building opportunities and collective contribution toward the synthesis report of SFDRR and the Science and Technology Roadmap.

The progress in IRDR regional cooperation, flagship project development, new partnership (UNESCO, Sichuan University, etc.) and, young scientists programme of IRDR were presented in the meeting.

The topic of this Lumos is “From Data to Action: DRR solutions from young professionals”. This topic aligns with the cross-cutting theme of 2025 GPDRR “Accelerate action for our collective sustainable future” and priority of global risk science research framework “Harness technologies, innovations, data and knowledge for risk reduction”. The innovations presented in this workshop will be shown in the YYP Innovation Lab at 2025GPDRR.

The 2025 Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks (HNPW 2025) event was successfully concluded in Geneva, Switzerland. In this two-week high-level event, IRDR co-organized a session with Peaceland Foundation and MAP-AQ entitled: “Strengthening Anticipatory Action: Inclusive Approaches to Global Disaster Resilience Building”.
