25 December 2024

Please register as a reviewer by completing the online form on https://council.science/news/call-reviewers-undrr-isc-hips/ by 31 December.

Background

Following the recommendation from the UNDRR-ISC technical report on Hazard Definition & Classification, the UNDRR-ISC Hazard Information Profiles (HIPs) are undergoing their first revision by the dedicated steering group and the updated version will soon be ready for review. The reviewed version will be launched at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva (2 – 6 June 2025).

The HIPs are organized in the following eight types: Hydrological & Meteorological, Extraterrestrial, Geological,Environmental, Chemical, Biological, Technological, Societal, and the review will include more information on the multi-hazard context and the early warning information where possible.

The original version of the 302 HIPs are available in the report on https://council.science/news/call-reviewers-undrr-isc-hips/  and on the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) website.

Call for reviewers

The ISC invites all interested individuals to contribute to the review for one or several HIPs to ensure they address the needs of a broad range of users. The review will take place from 1 December 2024 to 15 January 2025.

If you are an expert on one or more of the hazards in the 302 HIPs, you can register as an expert reviewer.

If you are not an expert but you use or plan to use the HIPs in your work, you can register as a user reviewer.

The HIPs provide scientific evidence for a common set of hazard definitions to Governments and stakeholders to inform their strategies and actions on risk reduction and management. We are, therefore, seeking a wide range of reviewers as the HIPs need to be usable by, useful to and used by a broad range of users.

If you are interested in contributing to the review, please complete the online form below as soon as possible. The deadline for registration is 31 December.

After your registration is received, you will be contacted by the ISC secretariat to finalize your contribution. All contributors will be mentioned in the report associated to the updated version of the HIPs (but not specifically for one HIP).

We thank you for your consideration to contribute to this important tool.
