King’s College London is hiring a lecturer in Geography - Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk

Based at the Strand Campus with its vibrant mix of academic disciplines, this appointment is part of a longer-term investment strategy to provide additional expertise in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. The post will be situated in the Department of Geography and support King’s Centre for Integrated Research on Risk and Resilience. This is an established centre of recognised international excellence with strong leadership providing a unique context for career development, led by Professor Mark Pelling. Collaboration is also anticipated with the Department of Geography, Hazards and Risk Research Group and its associated King’s Centre for Risk Management led by Professor Ragnar Lofstedt, and with research on climate, society and culture led by Professors Frans Berkhout and Mike Hulme. The successful applicant will contribute to the delivery of strategic objectives, working with existing staff to link expertise across the College as well as developing their own research agenda and teaching portfolio.

Applicants with interests in any substantive sub-field of Geography or related disciplines are encouraged, including those with ability and willingness to work across conventional human-physical divides. The postholder’s research and teaching will span conceptual, empirical and applied questions of risk framed by resilience, transformation and international development, drawing for example on political economy, social-ecological systems or political ecology thinking.
