International Expert Forum on "Mainstreaming Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction in Education"

The International Expert Forum on “Mainstreaming Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction in Education” Integrating SDG, SFDRR and UNFCCC Paris Agreement, scheduled to be held on 1 – 2 December, 2017 at AIT, THAILAND. It is organised by Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (DPMM), Asian Institute of Technology, THAILAND in associate with IRDR and other institutions and organisations.

Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (DPMM) at Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand through its interdisciplinary approach addressing the cross cutting issues of Disaster Risk Management and Sustainability in the context of engineering, architecture, natural and social sciences to manage and minimize the effects of disasters in the region. DPMM, AIT along with University of Newcastle, Australia under Australia-ASEAN Council (AAC) Grant for “Disaster Resilience Education Capacity Building in South-East Asia” is organising an “International Expert
Forum on Mainstreaming Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction in Education” during 1 – 2 December, 2017. This International Forum is an holistic approach to integrate Sustainable Development Goals, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030) and UNFCCC Paris Agreement to address the regional challenges on Mainstreaming resilience and DRR.
The objectives of the forum is to develop robust regional network with the collective capacity to lead initiatives that protect society from shocks to physical, socio-cultural, politico-economic and natural systems. The Expert Forum will provide an opportunity to develop a Higher Educational Institution Platform on DRR to address the cross cutting issues on Disaster Risk Governance and also understanding regional challenges that result from complex problems generated by natural hazards and human induced threats. The forum will create regional synergies between leading higher education institutions engaged in education and research on DRR and Sustainable Development, Development Agencies, Govt. and Non-Govt. Stakeholders to proactively address disaster risk and build resilience through education.
