The Science Technology Academia Stakeholder Group Consultation was held by the Asia Science Technology Academia Advisory Group (ASTAAG) with IRDR as the partner on 3rd of July, 2018. This consultation was the pre-event of the 2018 Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which was co-organised by UNISDR and the Government of Mongolia from 3-6 July 2018 in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.
Prof. Rajib Shaw, the chair of UN STAG and co-chair of UN ASTAAG, chaired the meeting and explained the purpose of the meeting. Prof. Peijun Shi, co-chair of UN ASTAAG, made the opening remarks by emphasising enhancing the inclusion of science and technology groups in DRR activities.
Prof. Saini Yang, the secretary of UN ASTAAG, provided with the overview of the 2nd Asian Science and Technology Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction and introduced the ASTAAG knowledge hub. Ms. Fang Lian, the communication and research officer, presented the result of the survey on identifying priority actions for science and technology to implement the Sendai Framework and delivered the idea of holding a Global Youth Forum on DRR by IRDR and its partnerships.
Prof. Toshio Koike from ICHARM/SCJ, Prof. Fumihiko Imamura from WBF, Prof. Qian Ye from IRG programme, Prof. Antonia Loyzaga from National Resilience Council, Philippines, Prof. Takako Izumi from APRU, Prof. Sakiko Kanbara from Kochi University, Prof. Qiang Zhang from Beijing Normal University and Prof. Shirish Ravan from UNOOSA shared the practices and experiences of their organisations.
Participants discussed on the priority actions and shared the cases of their countries. The organisers will consider all the comments and accomplish the Stakeholder Statement, which will be presented in Summary Plenary on 6 of July.
