Call for Chapters for IRDR Young Scientists Book

IRDR now has issued a Call for Chapters for an edited book titled: INTEGRATED RESEARCH ON DISASTER RISKS: CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE IRDR YOUNG SCIENTISTS PROGRAMME, which will be part of the Springer Springer Disaster Risk Reduction: Methods, Approaches and Practices Series.
The editors are Dr. Riyanti Djalante (UNU-IAS, IRDR-SC), Dr. Mizan Bisri (UNU-IAS, IRDR-YS), Prof. Rajib Shaw (Keio Univ, STAG-UNISDR, IRDR-SC).
 
RATIONALE AND CONTRIBUTION OF THE EDITED BOOK
The book is a collection of works done by young scientists of IRDR. This book examines multidisciplinary in research and actions in disaster risk reduction internationally.

10 April 2019     Deadline for abstracts
30 May 2019      Submission deadline for chapter drafts, start of the review process
30 June 2019      Reviews back to authors
30 September 2019 Re-submission of revised chapters
October 2019      Launching of book (early print) during IRDR Meeting (place TBA)
December 2019   Copy-edited book ready
 
  • Abstract of the chapter should not exceed 300 words
  • Conceptual/theoretical chapter will be a maximum of 8,000 words
  • Chapters that provide case studies or examples will be between 5,000-6,000 words
  • Manuscript should be submitted to all the editors: bisri@unu.edu, copy to djalante@unu.edu, and connect@irdrinternational.org

IRDR will organize the 5th IRDR Young Scientists Lumos "Economics of Disasters and Climate Change: Addressing inequalities, injustices, marginalisation and vulnerabilities" on 7 April 2026. The deadline of applying for presentation is 29 Mar. 2026.

The IRDR International Young Scientists Forum (IYSF) 2026 is a three-day international forum organized by IRDR and mainly hosted by IRDR IPO and IRDR ICoE Coherence. The forum brings early career researchers together to advance disaster risk science and its application to policy and practice in support of the Sendai Framework. Its outputs will assess the contribution of science to Sendai Framework implementation and generate forward-looking insights to inform the post-2030 disaster risk reduction agenda.
