He is the Director of Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Center (DPPC), Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur. He received a PhD from Utrecht University, Faculty of Geosciences, the Netherlands, with cooperation of Faculty of Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation, University of Twente. He was the Co-Chair, Climate Change & Disaster Risk Reduction Group, Global Young Academy based in Germany, and the DRR’s Science and Technology Expert Panels to National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), Prime Minister’s Department Malaysia, and technical committee for Inter-Agency for Slope Management (ICSM) National Slope Master Plan (PICN 2030).
As the Technical Committee (TC), the Asian Civil Engineering Coordinating Council (ACECC) TC21: Transdisciplinary Approach for Building Societal Resilience to Disasters, he promotes disaster intelligence, resilience culture, systemic-risk informatics, AI-geospatial technology, equitable resilience, anticipatory-action and multi-hazard early-warning system to re-strategize de-risk planning, climate resilience, and community-led DRR for emerging disaster. He is currently the Ordinary Council Member of MERCY Malaysia, actively supporting the Humanitarian-Development Nexus (HDN). His current interest is to advance technological-based sociotechnical system, accelerate sustainable-resilience agenda, and rejuvenate local DRR-resilience strategies for strengthening multi-tier risk governance, multi-scale risk communication, evidence-based risk investment, and risk-informed sustainable development in a changing climate.
