Maria Soledad Garcia Ferrari

Professionally qualified in Architecture and Urbanism in Uruguay, Professor Garcia Ferrari’s research focuses on current processes of urban development and regeneration in Latin America and Europe. Soledad has extensive expertise in sustainable planning in growing Latin American cities, with a focus on community-empowerment, participatory and co-creation processes in the production and management of the built environment.  Soledad’s research has engaged with increasing resilience and adaptation to climate change in the most vulnerable urban and peri-urban areas. She is currently leading research focused on community-led climate change-related risk management in Mexico, Colombia and Guatemala https://www.globalurbancollaborative.org. Soledad has contributed to the work of a variety of international organisations, such as United Nations COP, UN Global Compact on Migration, the British Council International Partnerships Fund on Resilient Planet, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Organisation of American States among others. Soledad is Programme Director for the MSc Urban Strategies and Design. As Dean International for the College of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, Soledad has enabled impactful and inclusive global partnerships, with strong commitment to develop research and education that is able to tackle complex global challenges. As Director of the Centre for Contemporary Latin American Studies and Dean International for Latin America, Soledad has promoted and supported cross-University research collaboration with international partners across the region.
